Several districts in Uttar Pradesh have recorded less than 90% coverage of targeted children below the age of one under the routine immunization programme conducted in 2022-23.

Data reveals that Jalaun district achieved only 71.54% coverage, with 31,322 children immunized out of the targeted 43,781.

To address this issue, the state health department has decided to establish district-level committees that will investigate the reasons behind the poor coverage and work towards vaccinating the “missed out” children. Successful strategies used in well-performing districts will also be implemented in other areas.

Among the districts with less than 90% coverage are Badaun, Lalitpur, Hamirpur, Mahoba, Ambedkar Nagar, Sultanpur, and Azamgarh.

Conversely, the best-performing districts include GB Nagar, Lucknow, and Ghaziabad, which surpassed their respective targets by 132.15%, 122.89%, and 127.03%.

Dr. Abhishek Shukla, the Secretary-General of the Association of International Doctors, emphasizes the importance of vaccinations in protecting infants and children from life-threatening diseases, as they are vulnerable at a young age.
