Introduction 

In a shocking turn of events. The Jadavpur University campus has been rocked by the tragic death of a first-year student. Swapnodeep Kundu, who fell from a balcony under suspicious circumstances. Kolkata Police have arrested two more students in connection with the incident, shedding light on the harrowing circumstances that led to the untimely demise.

The main accused, Sourav Chowdhury, a former student of Jadavpur University, had allegedly orchestrated the mental harassment of Swapnodeep Kundu. This distressing event appears to be a result of ragging that escalated to a horrifying outcome. Police sources have revealed that Deepsekhar Dutta (19) and Manotosh Ghosh (20) were complicit in mentally harassing the deceased student. Under the instigation of Sourav Chowdhury.

Investigations have unveiled a troubling sequence of events leading up to the unfortunate incident. The three accused reportedly coerced Swapnodeep Kundu into performing certain tasks, including chopping his chair in a specific manner, as part of the initiation process.

Additionally, Swapnodeep Kundu had to introduce himself to seniors in the hostel twice. Within a span of three days, highlighting the distressing nature of the situation he found himself in.

Deepsekhar Dutta, a second-year student in the Economics department, and Manotosh Ghosh, pursuing Sociology at the university, were both residents of the main hostel where the incident had occurred. Swapnodeep Kundu initially did not secure a room in the main hostel and was staying as a guest of Manotosh Ghosh.

The incident has sparked outrage within the university community and beyond, prompting Kolkata Police to take swift action. The arrest of Deepsekhar Dutta and Manotosh Ghosh sheds light on the deeply troubling practice of ragging that still persists in some educational institutions.

While Sourav Chowdhury had already been apprehended. The latest arrests underline the gravity of the situation and the need for stringent action against those involved.

Kolkata Police Commissioner, Vineet Goyal, expressed the seriousness of the ongoing investigation. He assured the public that the case was being closely monitored at the highest level.

The Joint CP (crime) has been directly involved in overseeing the inquiry, and officers from various departments, including Homicide and Forensic Science, are contributing to the investigation process.
