New Delhi, May 9: The University of Delhi (DU) is set to send a notice to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his sudden visit to a hostel on the university campus without prior permission.
According to sources, Rahul Gandhi arrived at the DU hostel on Saturday evening and spent the night there without informing the authorities. The visit has raised concerns over security, as well as COVID-19 protocol violations.
A senior DU official, who did not wish to be named, said that the university will be sending a notice to Rahul Gandhi, asking him to explain why he visited the hostel without prior permission and violated the university’s rules.
“Any outsider, including politicians, needs to take prior permission from the university authorities before visiting the campus. This is a standard protocol that is in place for the safety and security of the students and staff,” the official said.
The official added that the visit also raised concerns over COVID-19 protocol violations, as the university has strict guidelines in place to prevent the spread of the virus on campus.
Rahul Gandhi’s visit to the DU hostel comes amid a surge in COVID-19 cases in the country, and the university has been taking all necessary measures to ensure the safety of its students and staff.
The Congress leader has not yet responded to the university’s notice, and it remains to be seen what action the university will take in this matter.
Meanwhile, students at the DU hostel have expressed their surprise over Rahul Gandhi’s visit and said that they were not aware of his presence on the campus.
“It’s quite surprising that a political leader visited our hostel without informing anyone. We were not even aware of his presence here until the news broke out,” a student said.
This incident has sparked a debate on the need for strict security measures and protocol compliance in educational institutions, especially during the pandemic.
There were also allegations that the administration was being pressured by the opposition party to take action but the official of the university refuted the statement.
