HS Prannoy Soars to Career-Best World No. 7 in BWF Men’s Singles; Jolly-Gopichand Secure No. 15 Spot in Women’s Doubles

Indian badminton player HS Prannoy has reached a new career milestone by climbing two spots to secure the coveted world number seven position in men’s singles in the latest Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings. The rankings, released on Tuesday, reflect Prannoy’s exceptional performance and consistent dedication to the sport.

Prannoy’s achievement is a testament to his hard work and determination. With an impressive tally of 66,147 points from 17 tournaments, he currently holds the highest ranking among Indian singles players. This noteworthy advancement further establishes Prannoy as a force to be reckoned with on the international badminton circuit.

Following closely behind Prannoy is PV Sindhu, the two-time Olympic medalist, who has also made commendable progress in the rankings. Sindhu has moved up one spot to secure the 11th position in women’s singles, showcasing her unwavering commitment and continuous improvement.

In the women’s doubles category, India’s Commonwealth Games bronze medalists, Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand, have experienced a significant rise in their rankings. The talented duo has climbed two places to reach the commendable 15th spot in the latest BWF rankings. This accomplishment underscores their skill and potential as a formidable pair in the international badminton arena.

Among other Indian shuttlers in the men’s singles category, Lakshya Sen and Kidambi Srikanth have exchanged positions, with Sen securing the 22nd spot and Srikanth the 23rd spot. While their rankings have shifted slightly, both players continue to showcase their talent and determination to excel in the sport.

In men’s doubles, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, who have been a dominant force in Indian badminton, slipped two places to secure the seventh position in the rankings. Although they faced a minor setback, their exceptional skills and teamwork make them a formidable pair capable of reclaiming their previous positions.

While Prannoy, Sindhu, Jolly, Gopichand, and Rankireddy-Shetty have achieved commendable rankings, no other Indian players have currently secured spots within the top 20 in their respective categories. However, this serves as motivation for aspiring Indian shuttlers to strive for excellence and aim for higher rankings in the future.

The outstanding performances of these Indian badminton players not only reflect their individual dedication and talent but also highlight the growing prominence of India as a force to be reckoned with in the global badminton community. With continued support, training, and opportunities, Indian shuttlers have the potential to achieve even greater success and bring glory to the nation in the realm of international badminton.
