The Uttar Pradesh government has unveiled a new initiative aimed at renovating the aging and dilapidated buildings of secondary schools across the state. In a recent announcement, Finance Minister Suresh Khanna provided details about the cabinet decision, stating that 75% of the renovation costs would be shouldered by the government, while the remaining 25% would be the responsibility of the schools.

To facilitate the financial burden on schools, they will have the option to utilize their corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds or access funds from Members of Parliament (MP) and Members of Legislative Assembly (MLA) for their share of the redevelopment costs. This move aims to encourage wider participation from schools and ensure that the burden of financing the renovations is more manageable.

The government’s previous scheme, which required a 50-50 cost-sharing arrangement between the government and school management committees, faced challenges due to limited school participation. As a result, amendments were made to increase the government’s share to 75%, providing greater financial support for the schools.

Under the new redevelopment scheme, both public and private schools will be considered for renovation. The government will prioritize schools that are over 50 years old, followed by those that are 40 and 30 years old. The renovation efforts will focus on crucial aspects such as the construction of floors, roofs, and the provision of separate toilets for girls, among other necessary renovation works.

In addition to the school renovation project, the Uttar Pradesh government has also decided to strengthen the identification process for individuals staying in hotels. This decision comes in response to complaints regarding hotels renting out rooms without verifying the customers’ valid identity proofs. By tightening the identification process, the government aims to ensure greater security and accountability within the hotel industry.

The Uttar Pradesh government’s initiatives to renovate secondary schools and enhance hotel identification processes demonstrate its commitment to improving education infrastructure and safety measures in the state. These efforts will contribute to creating a conducive learning environment for students and bolstering the quality of education provided.
