Telangana schools colleges shut due to heavy rainfall

In response to the ongoing heavy rainfall and unpredictable weather conditions, Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao has taken decisive action by declaring a two-day holiday for all schools and colleges across the state. The announcement, made on Tuesday, comes as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students, staff, and commuters amidst the relentless downpours.

The state government initially declared holidays for educational institutions in the city last Thursday and Friday. However, with the incessant rains showing no signs of abating, the government decided to extend the holiday statewide, taking into account the potential risks posed by continuing harsh weather.

The directive issued to the state education department emphasizes the importance of safeguarding the well-being of students and educators. Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao has called for Education Minister Sabitha Indra Reddy to promptly issue orders for the closure of schools and colleges on Wednesday and Thursday. This preemptive action aims to avoid a repeat of the previous week’s situation when the announcement was made after students had already reached their schools, drawing criticism from various quarters.

The decision to proactively announce the holidays has been welcomed by parents, teachers, and students alike, as it demonstrates the government’s commitment to prioritizing the safety and welfare of the educational community. With heavy rains leading to waterlogging, traffic disruptions, and flooding in several parts of the state, staying off the roads during this period is not only prudent but also essential.

While the educational institutions remain closed during this period, the Chief Minister has urged citizens to exercise caution and stay informed about weather updates through official channels. Additionally, he has advised residents to take necessary precautions to safeguard their homes and properties from potential damage caused by the unrelenting rainfall.

The administration is working closely with relevant departments to ensure that essential services, such as disaster relief, medical assistance, and emergency response teams, are on standby to address any contingencies that may arise during this period of adverse weather conditions.

As the region grapples with the challenges posed by the prolonged monsoon, the Telangana government’s proactive approach in declaring holidays for schools and colleges is commendable. By taking swift action, the authorities are not only sending a message of concern and support to the educational community but also demonstrating their commitment to managing adverse weather situations effectively.

Parents and students are advised to stay tuned to official communications from their respective educational institutions regarding any further updates on the closure period. As the weather conditions stabilize, the government is expected to assess the situation and take appropriate steps to resume regular academic activities.

In the meantime, citizens are encouraged to prioritize safety and be vigilant during this challenging time. By working together and supporting one another, the people of Telangana can overcome the challenges posed by the heavy rains and ensure the well-being of all residents in the state.
