Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has announced the formation of 12 committees to commemorate the birth centenary of former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi. These committees will focus on different aspects of Karunanidhi’s personality and work, including his role as a journalist, writer, artist, social justice advocate, and more. The committees will collaborate with universities, colleges, students, women, and the government to organize celebrations and undertake initiatives for the benefit of the people.

Each committee will be chaired by a minister and co-chaired by another minister, while an IAS officer will serve as the member-secretary. The Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker, Deputy Speaker, and Chief Government Whip will lead one of the panels, with the Secretary of the Assembly Secretariat as the member-secretary.

The committees consist of individuals from various backgrounds, including retired judges, former legislators, doctors, academics, economists, industrialists, writers, journalists, retired civil servants, activists, artists, and religious leaders. Their expertise and diverse perspectives will contribute to planning and executing meaningful events and initiatives to honor Karunanidhi’s legacy.

The birth centenary celebrations aim to pay tribute to Karunanidhi’s multifaceted contributions to Tamil Nadu’s development and society. By involving different sectors and stakeholders, the government intends to ensure a comprehensive and inclusive commemoration of the late leader’s life and work.
