Introduction

In a significant breakthrough, the Punjab Police, in collaboration with a central security agency, successfully apprehended five terror operatives associated with Pakistan-based terrorist Harvinder Singh alias Rinda and Canada-based gangster-turned-terrorist Goldy Brar. The operation, which took place just a day before India’s Independence Day, thwarted their plans to carry out target killings in the state.

This development marks the second successful operation within a span of two days by the Punjab Police, further showcasing their commitment to safeguarding the region from potential threats. On the previous day, a separate terror module linked to Canada-based gangster-turned-terrorist Lakhbir Singh alias Landa was dismantled by Tarn Taran police, leading to the arrest of three individuals.

The arrested operatives, whose names have yet to be disclosed by the Special Operations Cell (SSOC), were found in possession of two foreign-made pistols, a magazine, and 10 live cartridges. According to preliminary investigations, these individuals were receiving financial assistance from the United States (US), raising concerns about the international scope of the terror network.

DGP tweets

Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav stated in a tweet that the Punjab Police’s swift action has effectively disrupted the sinister plans of anti-national elements aimed at disturbing the peace and harmony of the state. The thwarted scheme involved the intention to carry out target killings, which could have had severe repercussions on the region’s stability.

Apart from their connection to Harvinder Singh alias Rinda and Goldy Brar, the arrested operatives were reportedly receiving support and weapons consignments from across the border. The case against them has been registered under the relevant sections of the Arms Act and the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) at the SSOC’s Amritsar police station.

As Punjab Police continues its relentless efforts to identify and neutralize terror threats, these recent operations highlight the ongoing challenge posed by transnational terrorist networks. The successful apprehension of these operatives underscores the importance of international cooperation in combatting terrorism and maintaining regional security.

Conclusion

With these operations occurring so close to India’s Independence Day, authorities remain vigilant to ensure the safety and well-being of citizens during this celebratory period. The recent achievements by Punjab Police underscore the dedication of law enforcement agencies to preserving peace and thwarting any attempts to disrupt the country’s unity and harmony.
