In a shocking incident, a police constable has been dismissed from service after taking an official car assigned to a High Court judge for a joyride and subsequently crashing it into an electric pole. The incident took place in Nagpur, and the dismissal order was issued by Nagpur Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar.

The constable, who had been serving in the police force since 2016, was posted on guard duty at the official residence of Justice Valmiki Sa Menezes of the Nagpur bench of the Bombay High Court. On April 4, without seeking permission, the constable decided to take the car for a ride. Unfortunately, while passing through Vayusena Nagar, he lost control of the vehicle and crashed it into an electric pole.

Rather than reporting the accident, the constable returned the severely damaged car to the judge’s bungalow and parked it there discreetly, hoping to avoid detection. Initially, Sadar Police registered a case against an unidentified individual. However, through the aid of CCTV footage and a subsequent investigation, the constable’s role was revealed.

Following a thorough inquiry, Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar made the decision to dismiss the constable from service. Additionally, he ordered the constable to bear the cost of repairs amounting to Rs 2.28 lakh. The recovery of this amount would be deducted from the constable’s retirement benefits.

The incident has sparked outrage and raised concerns about the behavior and accountability of police personnel. The constable’s actions not only displayed a complete disregard for the law but also violated the trust placed in him as a member of the police force responsible for upholding the law and protecting citizens.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of integrity, responsibility, and ethical conduct within the police force. The dismissal of the constable and the directive to recover the repair costs from his own pocket send a strong message that such misconduct will not be tolerated. It also highlights the commitment of the Nagpur Police Commissioner to maintain discipline and accountability within the department.

Moving forward, it is crucial for authorities to ensure strict adherence to protocols and implement measures to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future. By promoting a culture of professionalism and instilling a sense of responsibility among police personnel, the department can work towards regaining the public’s trust and confidence.

Ultimately, the dismissal of the constable serves as a reminder that no one is above the law, regardless of their position or authority. It is a step towards upholding the principles of justice and reinforcing the importance of accountability within law enforcement agencies.
