Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a scathing attack on the Congress party, accusing them of widespread corruption and taking an 85% commission in every development project. Speaking at a rally in Ajmer, Rajasthan, ahead of the state elections, Modi claimed that his government’s success in development was due to plugging the leakages created by the Congress.
Referencing the recent defeat in Karnataka, where the Congress had labeled the previous BJP government as the “40% commission Sarkara” during the election campaign, Modi reiterated the allegations of corruption and stated that the Congress does not discriminate when it comes to looting the citizens, including the poor, oppressed, tribals, minorities, women, and Divyangs (people with disabilities).
Taking a veiled swipe at the ongoing internal conflicts within the Congress party, Modi highlighted the instability and infighting within the Rajasthan government. He questioned the lack of progress in Rajasthan despite the mandate given to the Congress in the previous elections.
Recalling the situation before 2014, Modi mentioned the public outcry against corruption, terrorist attacks in major cities, the Congress government’s reluctance to build roads at the borders, high crime rates against women, and the influence of a “superpower” above the prime minister, referring to remote control governance.
Modi criticized the Congress’ long-standing “guarantee habit” and accused them of betraying the poor with false promises, specifically referencing the “garibi hatao” (eradicate poverty) guarantee made by the Congress 50 years ago. He claimed that the people of Rajasthan have suffered due to the Congress’ strategies and promises.
The rally in Ajmer marked the completion of nine years of the Modi government across two terms. Prior to the rally, the prime minister visited the famous Brahma temple in Pushkar to offer prayers.
