Dense fog has enveloped Delhi and other parts of northwest India, causing significant disruptions to both domestic and international flights. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts forecasting continued foggy conditions in the region, impacting travel plans for many.
The IMD has raised an orange alert for very dense fog during the morning hours on Thursday and Friday, with a subsequent yellow alert for dense to moderate fog on Saturday and Sunday. This prolonged foggy spell has led to over 100 flight delays for the second consecutive day at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport. Travelers are facing challenges as both arrivals and departures are affected.
The weather forecast indicates that dense to very dense fog is likely to persist over northwest India in the next 3-4 days. This prolonged period of reduced visibility poses challenges for commuters and travelers alike. The IMD also predicts light isolated rainfall in northwest and central India from December 31 to January 2, 2024.
While parts of northwest and central India are expected to receive rainfall during this period, Delhi might not be fortunate in this regard. Weather scientists suggest that Saturday and Sunday could bring rain to some areas, providing a temporary respite from the dense fog. However, Delhi residents may have to endure the foggy conditions without the relief of precipitation.
About Persistent Fog Disrupts Flights:
Kuldeep Srivastava, a scientist at IMD, shed light on the forecast, stating, “Thursday and Friday will see very dense to dense fog, while December 30 and 31 may see moderate to dense fog. The situation will start to improve after that. There will be a marginal drop in the maximum and minimum temperature as well.”
The persistent fog not only disrupts air travel but also affects daily life, causing delays and challenges in commuting. Residents are advised to stay updated on weather advisories and take necessary precautions during this period of reduced visibility.
As northwest India grapples with an extended period of dense fog, the IMD’s alerts and forecasts play a crucial role in keeping the public informed. Travelers are urged to check their flight status, plan accordingly, and stay updated on weather conditions. While the foggy conditions are expected to gradually improve, it’s essential for residents and travelers to remain vigilant until normalcy returns to the region.
