The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a stark warning as dense to very dense fog conditions are expected to linger over northern India for the next four to five days. In a recent release, the IMD highlighted the alarming drop in visibility, falling below 200 meters in various regions such as Punjab, Delhi, Rajasthan, Bihar, Assam, West Bengal, and Sikkim, particularly at 5:30 am on Monday.

The release indicates that very dense fog is anticipated in significant parts of Punjab, West Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, and Sikkim. Additionally, dense fog has already been reported in areas of Haryana, Chandigarh, Jammu division, West Rajasthan, Delhi, West Madhya Pradesh, and East Uttar Pradesh. Moderate fog has also been observed in isolated regions of Assam and Jharkhand.

The persistent fog poses substantial challenges to transportation and daily activities, given the compromised visibility levels. Travelers in affected regions are advised to stay informed about weather forecasts and take precautionary measures during commutes. The reduced visibility, especially below 200 meters, demands heightened caution on the roads.

The IMD’s weather forecast predicts no significant change in minimum temperatures over Northwest India for the next 24 hours. However, a subsequent rise of approximately two degrees Celsius is expected over the following four days. This temperature variation may further influence the fog conditions and overall weather patterns in the affected areas.

About IMD’s Weather Alert:

The dense fog conditions are likely to impact various aspects of daily life, from transportation delays to potential disruptions in outdoor activities. Residents and authorities are urged to stay vigilant and adapt to the evolving weather conditions.

Given the severity of the fog, it is crucial for individuals to take necessary precautions. This includes using appropriate lighting while driving, allowing for increased travel time, and staying updated on weather advisories. Airports, railways, and road transport agencies should also implement safety protocols to minimize disruptions and ensure public safety.

As northern India braces for several days of persistent dense fog, the IMD’s weather alert serves as a crucial reminder for residents and travelers to prioritize safety. Staying informed about weather updates, exercising caution during commutes, and adhering to recommended safety measures are essential in navigating the challenges posed by these adverse weather conditions.
