Vimal Kumar Yadav, a 35-year-old journalist associated with the ‘Dainik Jagran’ newspaper, fell victim to unidentified gunmen who stormed his home early this morning.

The chilling incident occurred at around 5:30 am in the Raniganj Bazaar area. According to preliminary reports from Bihar Police, the assailants knocked on Yadav’s door and called out his name before firing a fatal shot into his chest when he answered.
Local authorities were immediately notified. The police station chief and the Superintendent of Police, Araria, reaching the scene shortly after.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar expressed his shock and dismay at the incident, labeling it as a “dukhad” (sad) occurrence. Investigation Ongoing
The investigation is now uncovering a potential link to an earlier murder within Yadav’s family. Two years ago, his younger brother, Kumar Shashibhushan alias Gabbu, who held the position of sarpanch, met a similar fate. Vimal Kumar Yadav was a key witness in the murder trial of his brother and was yet to testify. His murder has raised suspicions that it may be linked to the impending court proceedings.
ADG (HQ) Jitendra Singh Gangwar has put forward the possibility that the assailants might have perceived Yadav’s testimony as a crucial factor in the case against them.
This angle is now being thoroughly explored by the police as the family has expressed concerns over a potential connection between the two murders.
The slain journalist leaves behind a 15-year-old son and a 13-year-old daughter, both of whom are now left grappling with the loss of their father.
The opposition has criticized the government’s response to the incident. As the state BJP president Samrat Choudhary alleging that “democracy is in danger in Bihar.” Choudhary further voiced concerns over rising criminal activity in the state, pointing to the vulnerability of innocent citizens, journalists, and even law enforcement personnel.
