The Indian government has taken steps to address the rising concerns of malware attacks and scams by providing free bot removal tools through the Cyber Swachhta Kendra (CSK) portal. In an effort to enhance device security and safeguard smartphones and computers, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has introduced various tools while actively raising awareness among users through SMS notifications.
The CSK portal, also known as the Botnet Cleaning and Malware Analysis Centre, operates in collaboration with Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and antivirus companies under the management of the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In). The initiative aims to establish a secure cyberspace by detecting and removing botnet infections within India.
A botnet is a network of infected devices controlled by hackers to carry out malicious activities. To detect and remove malware and bots from their devices, individuals can visit the CSK website and access the “Security Tools” section. Windows users can download free bot removal tools such as eScan Antivirus, K7 Security, or Quick Heal, while Android users can find and download the ‘eScan CERT-IN Bot Removal’ tool or ‘M-Kavach 2’ from the Google Play Store.
In addition to bot removal tools, the CSK portal offers other security applications like ‘USB Pratirodh’ and ‘AppSamvid.’ ‘USB Pratirodh’ regulates the usage of removable storage media, requiring authentication for new USB devices and providing malware scanning and data encryption features. ‘AppSamvid’ for Windows users allows the execution of approved files only, protecting the system from viruses, trojans, and other malware.
The government’s initiative aims to create awareness about cybersecurity and provide individuals with the necessary tools to protect their devices from malware threats. By actively promoting the use of bot removal tools, the Indian government is taking steps to enhance cybersecurity across the country.
