Gujarat, India – As Cyclone Biparjoy continues to intensify, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached out to Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel to discuss the state’s preparedness and offer support. In the wake of the impending cyclone, officials at the Deendayal Port Authority in Kandla, Gujarat’s Kutch district, have initiated the evacuation of people from low-lying areas to temporary shelters.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for the Saurashtra and Kutch coasts in Gujarat, indicating the severity of the approaching cyclone. Cyclone Biparjoy is expected to further strengthen before making landfall in Gujarat’s Kutch region. The IMD’s latest bulletin states, “Cyclone Alert for Saurashtra & Kutch Coast: Orange Message. ESCS BIPARJOY lay at 0830 IST today, about 320km SW of Porbandar, 360km SSW of Devbhumi Dwarka, 440km South of Jakhau Port, 440km SSW of Naliya. To cross near Jakhau Port (Gujarat) by noon of June 15 as VSCS.”
In response to the situation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel to inquire about the status of Cyclone Biparjoy preparedness in the state. During their telephonic conversation, the Prime Minister assured the Chief Minister of providing all possible assistance to Gujarat. CM Bhupendra Patel took to Twitter to share this information, stating, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a telephonic conversation with Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel regarding the status & preparedness for Cyclone Biparjoy in Gujarat. PM assured to provide all possible help to Gujarat.”
Meanwhile, at the Deendayal Port Authority in Kandla, efforts are underway to ensure the safety of residents in low-lying areas. Officials have begun relocating people to temporary shelters to protect them from the potential impact of the cyclone. Om Prakash, the Public Relations Officer of Deendayal Port Authority, revealed that six ships have already departed from the port, and another 11 are scheduled to leave on Monday. Furthermore, both port officials and ship owners have been urged to remain vigilant and alert throughout the cyclone’s progression.
As Cyclone Biparjoy looms closer to the Gujarat coast, the state government, along with various agencies and authorities, is working tirelessly to minimize the potential damage and ensure the safety of its residents. The central government’s assurance of support and the proactive measures taken by local authorities indicate a collective effort to tackle the challenges posed by the cyclone.
