On the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi completing nine years in office, the Congress party has raised nine questions regarding various issues such as rising prices, unemployment, farmers’ income, and demanded an apology for what they perceive as a “betrayal” during his tenure. Jairam Ramesh, the party’s general secretary in-charge of communications, highlighted that these questions were based on critical issues raised by former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi during the Bharat Jodo Yatra.
The questions raised by the Congress party cover a range of concerns. They inquire about the skyrocketing inflation and unemployment in the country, the increasing economic disparities between the rich and the poor, the alleged favoritism in the sale of public property to the prime minister’s associates, the non-fulfillment of agreements made with farmers during the repeal of the three farm laws, the lack of legal guarantees for minimum support prices, and the failure to double farmers’ income over the past nine years.
Additionally, the Congress party accuses the government of corruption and cronyism, particularly questioning the prime minister’s actions regarding people’s savings in LIC and SBI and their alleged benefit to his acquaintance Adani. They further criticize the government’s handling of corruption cases, their silence on corruption in BJP-ruled states, and the impact of these issues on the Indian population.
The questions also touch on matters of national security, alleged politics of hatred for electoral gains, the treatment of women, Dalits, SC/ST, OBCs, and minorities, as well as concerns regarding democracy and federalism.
The Congress party asserts that the promises made by the government in the past nine years were disconnected from reality, and they call for an apology during the upcoming events to be held in the next five days for what they perceive as a betrayal of the country.
They question the government’s alleged practices of revenge against opposition parties and leaders and the use of monetary power to destabilize elected governments. The party also alleges that schemes for the welfare of the poor, needy, and tribals have been weakened through budget cuts and restrictive rules.
Finally, the Congress party questions the government’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, criticizing the lack of compensation for families of the deceased and the imposition of a sudden lockdown that left many workers stranded without adequate support.
