In a significant development, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a case against British aerospace company Rolls-Royce, along with its executives, and two Indian-origin businessmen. The case involves allegations of corruption in a deal to procure 24 Hawk 115 Advance Jet Trainer aircraft. The CBI has named Rolls-Royce’s director, Tim Jones, and businessmen Sudhir Choudhrie and Bhanu Choudhrie in the case. The central agency further revealed that the case involves the suspected corruption of unidentified public servants in connection with the aircraft procurement.
According to the CBI, these unknown public servants misused their positions of authority to approve and acquire a total of 24 Hawk 115 Advance Jet Trainer (AJT) aircraft for GBP 734.21 million. Additionally, they allegedly permitted the license manufacturing of 42 extra aircraft by the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), in exchange for materials supplied by Rolls-Royce worth an additional $308.247 million. Furthermore, an amount of $7.5 million was reportedly paid towards the Manufacturer’s License Fee. These actions are believed to have occurred in exchange for substantial bribes, commissions, and kickbacks paid by Rolls-Royce and its officers to intermediaries.
