Carlos Alcaraz Garfia continued his impressive form at the ATP Finals by defeating Daniil Medvedev in straight sets 6-2, 6-4 on Wednesday evening. The 19-year-old Spaniard was in control from the start and never looked like losing. He broke Medvedev’s serve twice in the first set and once in the second set to secure the victory.
Alcaraz’s win over Medvedev sets up a highly anticipated semifinal clash with Novak Djokovic. The two players have met six times before, with Djokovic winning five of those matches. However, Alcaraz has been in excellent form recently and will be confident of his chances of upsetting the world number one.
Djokovic reached the semifinals after defeating Taylor Fritz in straight sets 6-4, 6-2 earlier in the day. The Serbian will be looking to win his sixth ATP Finals title, having previously won the tournament in 2008, 2012, 2014, 2015, and 2018.
The other semifinal will be contested by Casper Ruud and Stefanos Tsitsipas. Ruud defeated Holger Rune 6-7(5), 7-6(4), 7-6(11) in a thrilling match, while Tsitsipas beat Andrey Rublev 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.
The ATP Finals are the end-of-year tournament for the top eight singles players in the world. The tournament is being held in Turin, Italy for the first time this year.
