Investigators have made progress in their probe into a bomb hoax targeting the Indian School in Delhi’s Sadiq Nagar. The latest threat, received via email on April 12, was traced back to an IP address that may be linked to a server in Germany or Russia, according to the police. This follows a previous bomb threat received by the school over the phone in November 2022. Fortunately, both incidents turned out to be false alarms.
In response to the email threat, the school was promptly evacuated and bomb disposal squads were deployed. After an exhaustive five-hour search operation, no suspicious items were found on the premises. The investigation took a technical turn as it was discovered that the threatening email was sent through an IP address associated with a server in Germany or Russia. However, international investigations present their own challenges, requiring adherence to various protocols.
A senior police officer involved in the case highlighted the possibility that students might be influenced by the actions of their peers. In the case of the Indian School, the investigation revealed that the IP address used to send the email was traced to servers in both Germany and Russia. This raises concerns that one student’s act could inspire others to carry out similar actions, perhaps as a misguided form of amusement. When a student is apprehended in such cases, counseling is provided to address their behavior. However, the recent surge in bomb threats sent via email necessitates proactive counseling for all students, educating them about the severe consequences of engaging in such activities.
In a separate incident, Delhi Public School located on Mathura Road also received a threatening email on May 11. Technical investigations conducted in this case indicated the involvement of a student, as the email was sent from the student’s own email address. However, the accused student has denied any involvement.
The Delhi Police’s Special Cell is actively investigating both cases. These incidents serve as a reminder of the importance of swift and thorough investigations to ensure the safety and security of educational institutions. Additionally, it underscores the need for continuous counseling and education for students to discourage them from engaging in such dangerous and disruptive behavior.
