Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has taken steps to unite opposition leaders in an effort to form a united front against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) before the 2024 elections. This move comes after his recent meeting with Congress Chief Mallikarjun Kharge to discuss strategies for the upcoming meeting, focusing on distinguishing between state and national issues.
The meeting is scheduled to take place in Patna on June 12 and is expected to include the participation of several opposition parties. The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, led by Chief Minister Hemant Soren, will also be present, given their alliance with the Congress in Jharkhand.
Tamil Nadu’s ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) is likely to attend, although Chief Minister MK Stalin may not be present due to a prior commitment. The DMK has expressed their intention to participate in the meeting despite scheduling conflicts.
The meeting holds significant importance as it marks a significant step forward in the opposition’s attempt to unite against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Nitish Kumar and his deputy Tejashwi Yadav have been actively reaching out to major opposition leaders, including Uddhav Thackeray, Mamata Banerjee, and Sharad Pawar, to garner support for the anti-BJP front.
The opposition meeting in Bihar signifies the success of these outreach efforts and aims to consolidate opposition parties to challenge the BJP’s bid for a third consecutive term in power. The meeting will play a crucial role in shaping the political landscape for the upcoming elections.
