In a stunning turn of events, the Wrestling Federation of India has issued a deadline for the arrest of Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. The wrestler-turned-politician has been embroiled in controversy for his alleged involvement in a corruption scandal related to the construction of a wrestling academy in the state of Uttar Pradesh.

WRESTLING FEDERATION IN PROTEST

The Wrestling Federation of India, which is responsible for promoting and regulating wrestling in the country, has been closely monitoring the case against Brij Bhushan Singh. In a statement issued on Friday, the federation announced that it had given a deadline of one week to the police to arrest the BJP leader.

“The Wrestling Federation of India is deeply concerned about the allegations of corruption against Brij Bhushan Singh. As an organization committed to promoting fair play and integrity in wrestling, we cannot tolerate any wrongdoing by our members, whether they are athletes or officials,” the statement said.

The corruption scandal in question relates to the construction of a wrestling academy in Brij Bhushan Singh’s constituency of Kairana in Uttar Pradesh. The academy was supposed to provide world-class facilities to wrestlers from across the state, but the project has been mired in controversy from the very beginning.

According to reports, Brij Bhushan Singh allegedly misused his position as a member of parliament to secure the contract for the construction of the academy for a company owned by his family members. The project was estimated to cost around Rs. 30 crores, but the actual cost of construction exceeded Rs. 100 crores.

The case has been under investigation by the Uttar Pradesh police for several months now, but there has been no progress in terms of arrests or convictions. The Wrestling Federation of India’s decision to issue a deadline for Brij Bhushan Singh’s arrest is likely to put pressure on the police to take action.

BJP leaders have so far been silent on the issue, with no official statement from the party on the Wrestling Federation of India’s deadline. Brij Bhushan Singh himself has denied all allegations of corruption and has called the case against him politically motivated.

It remains to be seen whether the police will be able to meet the Wrestling Federation of India’s deadline and arrest Brij Bhushan Singh. The case is likely to continue to be a major source of controversy in the coming weeks and months, with the reputation of both the BJP and the Wrestling Federation of India at stake.
