March 20th marked the International Day of Happiness, a day designated by the United Nations to recognize the importance of happiness and well-being as universal goals and aspirations in the lives of people around the world. This year’s theme, “Keep Calm. Stay Wise. Be Kind.”, aimed to promote the importance of mental health, kindness, and trust in building a happier and more resilient world.

Despite the challenges posed by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, people from all walks of life and corners of the world celebrated the International Day of Happiness with a range of activities, including virtual events, social media campaigns, and community gatherings. The UN emphasized the importance of taking care of oneself and others during these trying times, emphasizing the role of positivity, empathy, and resilience in overcoming adversity.

Mental health and well-being were major focuses of this year’s International Day of Happiness celebrations, with experts and organizations highlighting the need to prioritize mental health in order to achieve happiness and fulfillment in life. The UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, emphasized the importance of mental health as a fundamental human right, calling for greater investments in mental health services and support.

Several initiatives were launched around the world to promote mental health and well-being, including mental health helplines, online support groups, and workshops on stress management, mindfulness, and emotional intelligence. Many organizations also emphasized the importance of cultivating kindness and empathy as essential components of a happier and more harmonious world.
