The Global South Virtual Summit has witnessed and heard the presence and voices of Indian Prime Minister as well. In his opening remarks, PM Narendra Modi mentioned about the rising price trends of food, fuel and fertilizers. PM also voiced his concerns about the economic impact of COVID as well as natural disasters by the climate change.
He further added,” It is clear that world is in a state of crisis”. He said this in the presence of several leaders of various developing countries. Most of the Global South , have not been created by the Global South , but they affect us more.”
India is hosting a two day summit to bring together countries of the Global South. This is to provide them a common platform so that they can bring together and discuss the common issues and problems and reach to a conclusion. These issues included food and energy security affected by the Ukraine conflict.
PM Modi stated,” Developing nations should join hands to set the global agenda by revamping political and financial governance. This is to ensure that they are not excluded from development . It is important at a time when the world is in the state of crisis.”
India’s take on the Summit.
India initiates its journey of being a G20 presidency this year. Therefore, our aim is to amplify the voice of the Global South.
The Global South refers to the countries of Asia , Africa and South America. The theme for this session of the summit is ” Voice of the Global South for Human Centric Development” .This theme is going to be the opening session . Whereas ” Unity of Voice -“Unity of Purpose” is going to be the theme of the ending session .
The summit is going to conduct ten sessions out of which four sessions would be conducted on Thursday . Whereas six sessions would be conducted on Friday. The session is going to be huge with the participation of leaders of almost 10-20 countries.
