Why the earthquake happened

The quake was a result of the geological activity at the juncture of the Eurasian and Indian tectonic plates. It caused widespread concern but resulted in no immediate reports of casualties or injuries.

The Hindu Kush mountain range, known for its seismic activity, experiences frequent earthquakes. This happens due to the complex interaction between the aforementioned tectonic plates.

These geological movements are a common occurrence in this region. It can sometimes lead to tremors being felt across a wide expanse, as seen in the recent event.

According to the National Centre for Seismology Director, JL Gautam, tremors were felt significantly in several parts of northern India, including Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab.

The impact of the quake was also felt in the bustling capital city of Delhi. The residents experienced the unsettling sensation of the ground shaking beneath them.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal promptly took to social media to reassure residents. He tweeted that “Earthquake tremors have also been felt in Delhi. Hope everyone is safe.” The Delhi Police also used their official Twitter account to issue a safety advisory, saying, “Hey Delhi people, We hope you all are safe! For any emergency help, dial 112.”

Despite the unsettling nature of the earthquake and the strong tremors experienced by many, the authorities have reported no immediate loss of life or injuries.

The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of preparedness and awareness in earthquake-prone regions.

India has a history of experiencing seismic activity due to its location on the Indian Plate, which is gradually colliding with the Eurasian Plate.

The gradual movement of these tectonic plates generates geological stress, which is eventually released in the form of earthquakes.

The government and local authorities continually work to improve infrastructure and raise awareness about safety measures during such occurrences.

As the aftershocks of the Afghanistan earthquake gradually subside, residents of northern India remain vigilant while carrying on with their daily lives.

While no immediate damage has been reported, this event serves as a stark reminder of the ever-present geological forces that shape our world and impact the lives of millions.
