A Muslim girl and a Hindu boy were subjected to physical assault and harassment by a mob in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, as they exited a hotel, according to police officials. The incident, captured in a viral video on social media, occurred on Thursday night. Two individuals who came to the couple’s aid were also injured, suffering stab wounds.
The Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Rajesh Raghuvanshi, reported that upon leaving the hotel after having dinner, the mob pursued and encircled the couple. They began questioning the woman about her association with a man from a different faith. The woman explained that she had informed her parents and had come to dine with the man. She objected to the mob’s misconduct. During the confrontation, two individuals who attempted to help the couple were stabbed by a member of the crowd.
Authorities have arrested two individuals, aged between 23 and 26, in connection with the incident. An ongoing effort is underway to identify and apprehend the remaining members of the mob.
In response to the attack, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has directed the police to take stringent action against those responsible for harassing the couple.
