New Delhi, May 19, 2023: India’s much-anticipated new Parliament building is set to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 28. The completion of the construction marks a significant milestone for the country and represents the spirit of a self-reliant India, according to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.

The new Parliament building, constructed by Tata Projects Ltd, has been meticulously designed and built with quality construction within a record timeframe. The state-of-the-art structure stands as a testament to India’s democratic heritage and will serve as a symbol of the country’s progress.

With a built-up area of 64,500 square meters, the triangular-shaped four-storey building boasts three main gates named Gyan Dwar, Shakti Dwar, and Karma Dwar. It has been designed to accommodate the increasing number of parliamentarians, providing enhanced seating capacity and improved facilities.

The Lok Sabha chamber can comfortably seat 888 members, while the Rajya Sabha chamber can accommodate 300 members. In the event of a joint sitting of both Houses, the Lok Sabha chamber can accommodate up to 1,280 members, ensuring ample space for democratic deliberations.

The interiors of the new building will captivate visitors with a rich blend of Indian culture, showcasing the diversity of regional arts, crafts, textiles, and architecture. A magnificent Central Constitutional Gallery will be a prominent feature accessible to the public, further enhancing the understanding and appreciation of India’s democratic journey.

Apart from the chambers, the new Parliament building will feature a grand constitution hall, an exclusive lounge for Members of Parliament, a library, multiple committee rooms, dining areas, and ample parking space. The emphasis on functionality and modern amenities will provide a comfortable and efficient working environment for parliamentarians.

Sustainability and environmental consciousness have also been prioritized in the construction of the new building. It will utilize resource-efficient green technology, promoting environmentally friendly practices and contributing to economic revitalization. Furthermore, the structure will adhere to the highest safety standards, including seismic zone 5 requirements, ensuring the well-being of all occupants.

The inauguration of the new Parliament building on May 28 will be a momentous occasion, symbolizing India’s commitment to progress, democracy, and inclusivity. The building’s completion reflects the nation’s aspirations for a stronger and more vibrant future, as it prepares to host and facilitate the democratic processes that drive the country forward.
