Hyderabad,
The Telangana State Cabinet has given the green light to a massive plan aimed at enhancing the transport infrastructure in the state capital, Hyderabad. The ambitious project, estimated to cost Rs 60,000 crore, entails the expansion of the Hyderabad Metro Rail system and the development of new routes connecting different areas within the city and beyond.
Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao announced the groundbreaking decision following a lengthy Cabinet meeting that lasted for over six hours. Expressing confidence in securing Central assistance for the proposed Metro Rail expansion, Minister Rama Rao asserted that if the aid does not materialize, the state would explore alternative funding avenues to execute the transformative project.
The comprehensive expansion plan focuses on connecting Hyderabad to various routes leading to different parts of the country, envisioning a seamless transportation network that will significantly benefit commuters and boost economic activities in the region.
One of the key extensions includes the Godavarikani route, which will feature a unique double-layer project. This corridor will dedicate one layer for vehicular movement and another layer specifically for the Metro Rail, demonstrating the state’s commitment to developing modern and efficient transport solutions.
Another crucial extension will be on the Adilabad – Nagpur route, where the Metro will be extended from Patny station to connect with the Outer Ring Road (ORR) at Kandlakoya. As this extension involves defense lands, the state government plans to engage with the Centre to facilitate land procurement for the project.
The Isnapur to Miyapur corridor and the subsequent extension from Miyapur to Lakdikapul will further enhance Metro connectivity within Hyderabad, significantly easing travel for residents and visitors alike.
Furthermore, the Vijayawada route will witness an extension from LB Nagar to Pedda Amberpet, while the Warangal route will be extended from Uppal to Bibi Nagar, complemented by an additional Metro line connecting Uppal and ECIL crossroads.
In a bid to improve connectivity to the upcoming Pharma City, the Metro line on the Bengaluru Highway will be extended from Shamshabad to Shadnagar via Kothur, with another line running from Shamshabad to Kandukur.
The Chief Minister of Telangana, K Chandrashekhar Rao, has expressed his vision of making Hyderabad’s transport system the finest in the country, and the approval of this extensive Metro Rail expansion aligns with this aspiration.
Additionally, Chief Minister Rao has already laid the foundation stone for the Metro connection from Raidurg to the Shamshabad Airport, marking a significant milestone in the realization of the state’s transport infrastructure goals.
Moreover, the Cabinet has cleared a proposal for a 159-kilometer-long Metro line along the Outer Ring Road, eliminating the need for land acquisition and further streamlining the project’s execution.
With the State Cabinet’s resolute approval, the Telangana government is now set to embark on a transformative journey to create a world-class Metro Rail network that will not only elevate Hyderabad’s status but also improve the overall transport landscape in the state, fostering growth and prosperity for its citizens.
