CEO K. Krithivasan. Brings organisational changes in TCS
CEO K. Krithivasan. Brings organisational changes in TCS

July 31, 2023

In a strategic move to enhance customer-centricity and capitalize on industry-specific expertise, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has unveiled a new organizational structure under the leadership of CEO K. Krithivasan. This marks the first major change since he assumed the position on June 1, 2023.

The revamped structure will see the return of industry solution units based on verticals, an approach that TCS had previously employed successfully. The move is aimed at synergizing domain knowledge and contextual expertise across business segments, which the company believes will deliver optimal value to its customers.

As part of the reorganization, Harrick Vin, an alumnus of IIT-Bombay with an impressive 18-year tenure at TCS, has been appointed as the new Chief Technology Officer (CTO). He will succeed K. Ananth Kumar, who is retiring from the role. In addition, Abhinav Kumar has been named as the interim head for marketing, replacing Rajashree R.

The new appointments are set to take effect from August 1, according to an official statement released by the company. This change in leadership signals TCS’s commitment to nurturing internal talent and providing growth opportunities for its high-performing executives.

The previous organizational structure, introduced under former CEO Rajesh Gopinathan in April 2022, organized clients based on their revenue size. However, some media reports suggested that this approach caused unease within the company, especially among senior management. In response to feedback received from employees and clients during his initial two months as CEO, Krithivasan initiated the reorganization to address these concerns.

In a memo sent to colleagues, Krithivasan emphasized the importance of deepening customer centricity in TCS’s operations, highlighting it as a pivotal factor for the company’s growth and success in the market.

This recent restructuring marks the fourth such organizational overhaul in TCS in the last few years. Under the leadership of Rajesh Gopinathan, two similar restructuring moves were implemented, while his predecessor, N. Chandrasekaran, also introduced one during his tenure.

Industry insiders and analysts are keenly observing how this new organizational structure will impact TCS’s operations, client relationships, and overall performance in the global tech market. With an illustrious history of delivering innovative solutions and services, TCS remains a dominant player in the IT services industry.

As TCS moves forward under the leadership of K. Krithivasan, the focus on customer-centricity and leveraging industry expertise is expected to drive the company’s growth and reinforce its position as a leading tech exporter on the global stage.
