In a tragic incident that shook Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, at least 39 people lost their lives and nearly 200 others were injured during a suicide bombing at a Jamiat Ulema Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) convention. The devastating blast occurred in the Khar tehsil of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bajaur district, targeting a political gathering and leading to widespread casualties.
According to reports, the political convention was in full swing when the suicide bomber detonated the explosive device, causing havoc and chaos among the attendees. The explosion, which took place inside the convention, resulted in the death of a local JUI-F leader, who was among the victims. As of now, no organization or individual has claimed responsibility for this heinous act of violence.
Emergency response teams and law enforcement agencies quickly rushed to the scene to manage the aftermath of the attack. Ambulances were seen arriving to transport the wounded to nearby hospitals. Hospitals across Bajaur and neighboring areas were placed on high alert, with efforts to transfer critically injured patients to medical facilities in Peshawar and other locations via helicopters.
Eyewitnesses recounted the harrowing moment when the blast occurred. Attendees were listening to a discussion when the powerful explosion struck, leaving many unconscious and injured. The scene was described as chaotic, with slippers and skull caps scattered around the bomb blast site.
In response to the tragedy, JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman called for a thorough investigation into the incident and urged his party workers to remain peaceful. Chief Minister Muhammad Azam Khan also condemned the attack and demanded a comprehensive report from the district administration.
JUI-F leader Hafiz Hamdullah strongly condemned the act of terror and denounced the perpetrators, emphasizing that such violence should not be considered a form of jihad but rather an act of terrorism. He expressed frustration over the previous incidents where their workers were targeted and called for action from the authorities.
The political violence in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has once again brought grief and sorrow to the region. The loss of innocent lives and the injuries sustained by numerous others have further heightened concerns about security and public safety in the province.
As investigations continue into the heinous attack, the nation mourns the loss of those who fell victim to this senseless act of violence. The authorities face the challenge of ensuring justice for the victims’ families and taking measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
