A recent meeting between veteran politician Sharad Pawar and his nephew Ajit Pawar has ignited speculations and unease. The meeting, held at a Pune businessman’s residence, comes in the wake of Ajit Pawar and several other NCP leaders joining the BJP-backed government led by Eknath Shinde.

Rumors had swirled that the meeting was aimed at convincing Sharad Pawar. As a prominent figure in the opposition’s INDIA bloc, to switch allegiances and join forces with the BJP. However, Sharad Pawar swiftly dismissed these claims, clarifying that he had not been offered a Union Minister post in exchange for deserting the INDIA bloc.
Addressing the speculation, Sharad Pawar revealed that certain “well-wishers” had approached him with proposals to collaborate with the BJP, but he firmly stated that he had no intentions of such a move. He emphasised that the meeting was within the realm of familial interactions, pointing out that Ajit Pawar is his nephew.
The meeting’s aftermath has stirred discomfort within the Congress-NCP-Shiv Sena alliance. Sanjay Raut, a trusted aide of Shiv Sena leader Uddhav Thackeray, referred to Sharad Pawar as the “Bhishma Pitamaha” (wise elder) of Maharashtra politics, cautioning against actions that could sow doubts among the people.
Other Pressing issues emerge
In addition to the political intrigue in Maharashtra, other pressing issues have also emerged. The central government’s recent circular pertaining to CBSE has sparked controversy. The circular designates August 14 as “partition horrors remembrance day,” prompting criticism that it could reignite bitterness and divisions within society. Opponents argue that this move contradicts the broader societal efforts to move past the historical conflicts.
Sharad Pawar, a seasoned politician, has accused the BJP of deliberately destabilising elected governments in various states. He included states like Goa, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra. This assertion had followed instances where BJP-led governments have faced challenges and had to be replaced by opposition alliances.
Commenting on the situation in Manipur, Sharad Pawar expressed dissatisfaction with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s approach. He criticised the PM for dedicating minimal attention to the region’s concerns, highlighting that the PM had spent only a few minutes discussing Manipur during important speeches
