Introduction

In a bid to put an end to growing speculation, Senior Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Jayant Patil vehemently denied reports of a clandestine meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Pune. Patil, who heads the Maharashtra NCP unit and is a staunch loyalist of party supremo Sharad Pawar, dismissed the rumours and reaffirmed his commitment to the NCP and its leader.

Claims refused by the leader

The rumours had sparked speculations that Patil was considering a shift to the Ajit Pawar-led faction within the Shiv Sena-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) coalition government in the state. However, Patil categorically refuted these claims, stating that he remains steadfast in his allegiance to Sharad Pawar and the NCP.

Mr Patil clarified his whereabouts during the alleged period of the meeting, stating that he had been with Sharad Pawar the previous evening. He shared that he had held discussions with senior colleagues Anil Deshmukh, Rajesh Tope, and Sunil Bhusara at his home until the early hours of the morning. Furthermore, he pointed out that his presence and participation in the Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (MVA) meeting, held for the purpose of organizing the INDIA conclave in Mumbai, supports his loyalty to the party.

Questioning Credibility of information

Addressing the swirling speculation, Mr Patil challenged those responsible for spreading the rumours to provide evidence of the purported meeting. He asserted that he is continuously aligned with Sharad Pawar and underlined that such unfounded speculations should cease. The senior NCP leader reiterated that there is no pressure on him to switch allegiances and that he has not engaged in any discussions regarding this matter with anyone.

The situation drew attention from multiple quarters, including Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who confirmed that no meeting had taken place between Amit Shah and Jayant Patil. Fadnavis urged those disseminating the rumors to verify information before making it public.

The ongoing political landscape in Maharashtra remains dynamic, with recent developments seeing Sharad Pawar’s nephew Ajit Pawar and eight NCP MLAs joining the state government led by Eknath Shinde. The move has spurred discussions about potential shifts in allegiances within the NCP, but loyalists like Jitendra Awhad have come forward to assure their unwavering support to Sharad Pawar.

In the midst of these swirling rumours and speculations, Jayant Patil’s firm denial of a secret meeting with Amit Shah serves as a reminder of the political turbulence within the state and the determination of key players to uphold their allegiances.

Conclusion

The situation remains fluid as political circles continue to closely monitor developments within the NCP and its various factions. As Maharashtra’s political landscape evolves, the loyalty of party members like Jayant Patil and their choices will continue to shape the course of state politics.
