Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually flagged off the northeast’s first Vande Bharat Express, emphasizing its potential to enhance tourism, education, trade, and employment opportunities in the region. The symbolic launch took place from Guwahati to New Jalpaiguri in West Bengal on Monday, with the prime minister waving a green flag on the screen.
The introduction of the Vande Bharat Express is expected to strengthen connectivity between Assam and West Bengal, contributing to the overall development of the northeastern states. PM Modi highlighted the significant infrastructure development in the region over the past nine years, with all states now connected through the railway network.
Promoting inclusivity and social justice, the prime minister emphasized that the newly inaugurated train will provide the people of the region with faster and more comfortable travel options, thereby boosting tourism in the area. The Guwahati-New Jalpaiguri Vande Bharat Express will complete the journey in 5 hours 30 minutes, reducing the travel time compared to the current fastest train.
In addition to the train launch, PM Modi dedicated a 182-km route of newly electrified sections to the nation and inaugurated a DEMU/MEMU shed at Lumding in Assam. These initiatives further contribute to the development of infrastructure and connectivity in the region.
The introduction of the Vande Bharat Express and the ongoing focus on infrastructure development reflect the government’s commitment to promoting tourism, connectivity, and overall progress in the northeast region.
