
New Delhi – Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his capacity as the chairman of NITI Aayog, led the eighth governing council meeting of the organization today. The meeting, held at the new Convention Centre in Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, focused on the theme of “Viksit Bharat @2047: Role of Team India.” The discussions revolved around key issues such as health, skill development, women empowerment, and infrastructure development, with the overarching goal of transforming India into a developed nation by 2047.
The day-long meeting encompassed eight prominent themes, including Viksit Bharat@2047, thrust on Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), infrastructure and investments, minimizing compliances, women empowerment, health and nutrition, skill development, and Gati Shakti for area development and social infrastructure. The meeting witnessed the participation of Chief Ministers/Lieutenant Governors from all states and union territories, Union Ministers as ex-officio members, and the Vice Chairman and Members of NITI Aayog.
The preparations for the 8th Governing Council Meeting were initiated with the second Chief Secretaries Conference in January 2023. This conference served as a platform for Chief Secretaries from all states and union territories to share best practices and policy insights. Wide-ranging stakeholder consultations, brainstorming sessions with subject experts, academia, and practitioners were also conducted to incorporate grassroots-level perspectives.
India, as the world’s fifth-largest economy and the most populous nation, stands at a crucial juncture in its economic development trajectory, poised for accelerated growth over the next 25 years. The 8th Governing Council Meeting aims to create a roadmap for Viksit Bharat by 2047, fostering collaboration between the Centre and States as Team India.
