Srinagar, May 15 – In a momentous celebration to mark the first-ever historic G20 event in Kashmir, a magnificent cyclothon named “Pedal for Peace” took place in Ganderbal, organised by the social voluntary organisation ‘Voice for Peace and Justice.’ Over 500 athletes hailing from various regions of the Kashmir Valley participated, adding a vibrant and energetic atmosphere to the proceedings.

The arrival of G20 delegates in Kashmir for the Y-20 summit has brought the spotlight onto the promotion of Kashmir’s traditional handicrafts and flourishing tourism sector at the global level, as emphasized by the organization in a statement issued to the media.

The cyclothon commenced with great fanfare, as participants, adorned in colourful jerseys, gathered at the starting point in Ganderbal. The route, meticulously planned to showcase the mesmerising beauty of Kashmir, spanned through picturesque landscapes, with snow-capped peaks and lush green valleys serving as the backdrop.

Enthusiastic spectators lined the route, cheering on the cyclists as they pedaled their way through the winding roads. Local communities joined hands to create vibrant displays of traditional music and dance, enhancing the festive ambiance. The event not only provided an opportunity for athletes to showcase their cycling skills but also aimed to spread the message of peace and unity across the region.

The ‘Pedal for Peace’ cyclothon has not only acted as a physical display of athleticism but has also served as a symbolic gesture, reflecting the aspirations of the people of Kashmir. By organising such an event on the eve of the historic G20 summit, the organisers have emphasised the importance of peace and stability in the region.

The event also proved to be a platform for showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Kashmir. Traditional handicrafts, including intricate woodwork, embroidered textiles, and exquisite carpets, were exhibited throughout the cyclothon route. This provided an opportunity for local artisans and craftsmen to display their skills and promote their work at an international level.

Furthermore, the cyclothon also highlighted the immense potential of the tourism sector in Kashmir. With the arrival of G20 delegates, the global spotlight has been redirected towards the region’s natural beauty and rich cultural offerings. The event aimed to further amplify the message that Kashmir is not only a haven for adventure enthusiasts but also an abode of vibrant culture and warm hospitality.
