New Delhi, May 21, 2023 – Today marks the 32nd death anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, and his son Rahul Gandhi, along with his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, paid a heartfelt tribute to their late father. Rahul Gandhi, a prominent leader of the Indian National Congress, took to Twitter to remember his father and express the enduring influence Rajiv Gandhi has had on his life.

In a touching tweet in Hindi, Rahul Gandhi wrote, “Papa, you are with me, as an inspiration, in memories, always!” Accompanying the tweet was a video compilation showcasing various poignant moments from Rajiv Gandhi’s life, evoking nostalgic memories and paying homage to his significant contributions.

Earlier in the day, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra visited Vir Bhumi, the memorial site of Rajiv Gandhi in the national capital, to offer floral tributes. The solemn occasion was attended by Congress parliamentary party chairperson Sonia Gandhi and party president Mallikarjun Kharge, who also joined in paying homage to the late Prime Minister.

Rajiv Gandhi assumed leadership of the Indian National Congress in 1984, following the tragic assassination of his mother, the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. At the age of 40, he became India’s youngest Prime Minister in October 1984, serving the nation until December 2, 1989.

Born on August 20, 1944, Rajiv Gandhi’s life was tragically cut short when he was assassinated by a suicide bomber from the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) during an election rally in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu, on May 21, 1991. His untimely death shook the nation, leaving a void in Indian politics and a lasting impact on the hearts and minds of the people.

Rajiv Gandhi’s tenure as Prime Minister was marked by numerous transformative initiatives and modernization efforts. He played a pivotal role in introducing technological advancements, particularly in the fields of information technology and telecommunications, which laid the foundation for India’s emergence as a global player in these sectors.

As the years pass, Rajiv Gandhi’s legacy continues to inspire and resonate with the Indian people. His commitment to progress, youth empowerment, and inclusive development remains an enduring source of inspiration for leaders and citizens alike.

On this day of remembrance, the nation joins Rahul Gandhi and his family in honoring the memory of Rajiv Gandhi, a leader who dedicated his life to the service of the nation. His ideals and vision for a prosperous and united India continue to guide us as we strive towards a brighter future.
