In a distressing incident caused by heavy rainfall in the National Capital Region (NCR), over 400 cars were submerged up to their roofs in a yard in Greater Noida due to the rise in the water level of the Hindon river. The shocking video, which has now gone viral, reveals rows after rows of parked white cars, with the water dangerously close to engulfing them.
The incident occurred near Suthiyana village in Greater Noida, where a yard was designated to park cars seized due to non-payment of insurance premiums. Officials reported that the water level of the Hindon river suddenly rose around 3 pm, resulting in the flooding of the yard and causing the vehicles to be swallowed by the rising waters.
As the situation worsened, nearby homes close to the river were also affected, leading to the evacuation of villagers and other people trapped in low-lying areas to safer regions. Police officials have been working diligently to ensure the safety of the affected residents and move them to higher ground.
Noida and several other parts of the National Capital Region have experienced light to moderate rainfall in the early hours of the day, contributing to the rising water levels of rivers and water bodies in the region. At noon, the Yamuna river was reported to be flowing slightly above the danger mark of 205.33 meters, with the level at 205.4 meters. It is important to note that the Hindon river is a tributary of the Yamuna, which could explain the rapid increase in its water level.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has been closely monitoring the weather conditions and has issued alerts for several states, including Maharashtra, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. According to the IMD’s predictions, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected to continue in the Saurashtra-Kutch region, Madhya Maharashtra, Goa, and coastal Karnataka. However, for Delhi, no significant rainfall warning has been issued, though light to moderate rain is anticipated to commence from the night of July 25th.
Despite the grim situation in Greater Noida, there is a glimmer of hope in Gujarat, where the flood situation is expected to improve. The ANI report mentioned that the state has experienced reduced rainfall over the past 24 hours, providing some relief to the inundated regions.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and have been on high alert, ensuring timely evacuations and taking measures to mitigate further damage. Citizens are urged to stay vigilant, follow safety advisories, and cooperate with authorities during this challenging period of heavy rainfall and flooding in the region.
