In a dramatic turn of events, the Indian Parliament was thrown into chaos as Opposition parties moved a No-Confidence Motion against the government and donned black attire to protest against the ongoing Manipur issue. The motion, the first of its kind in 20 years, has sparked heated debates and disruptions in both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi fired shots at the Opposition, dismissing the No-Confidence Motion as futile and asserting that the people have consistently shown confidence in Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “PM Modi had said that they (Opposition) can bring the No-Confidence Motion in 2023 once again. They have come prepared. But there is a little divide there. Congress party, as per its usual attitude, did not consult the other Opposition parties,” said Mr. Joshi, urging the Opposition to find unity before challenging the government’s credibility.
Despite the Minister’s remarks, the Opposition remained steadfast in its pursuit to bring attention to the ongoing unrest in Manipur. Members of the ‘INDIA’ alliance, along with Aam Admi Party MP Raghav Chadha, arrived at Parliament wearing black attire, symbolizing their solidarity with the people of Manipur.
The Manipur issue, which has been a pressing concern during the ongoing Monsoon Session, revolves around escalating violence and demands for accountability from the State Chief Minister. Opposition leaders have been vocal about the need for Prime Minister Modi to address the situation urgently.
The Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were plagued by constant disruptions as MPs from the treasury benches and the Opposition raised slogans against each other. The unruly scenes resulted in multiple adjournments, with business being temporarily suspended until order could be restored.
Aam Admi Party MP Raghav Chadha highlighted the Opposition’s determination to make the government acknowledge the severity of the situation in Manipur. “Today, the MPs of the ‘INDIA’ alliance have decided that to oppose the atrocities on the people of Manipur and the barbarism going on there, we will wear black clothes and go to the Parliament,” he said, urging the government to take prompt action to save Manipur and fulfill its Constitutional duty.
As the No-Confidence Motion and black attire protest continue to grip Parliament, the spotlight remains on the Manipur unrest, demanding attention and resolution from the government. The unfolding events demonstrate the deep divisions and political tensions within the country, reflecting the urgency for addressing critical issues to safeguard the nation’s unity and stability.
In the coming days, all eyes will be on the Parliament as the Opposition’s No-Confidence Motion is expected to be further debated. Meanwhile, the situation in Manipur calls for immediate action and responsible governance to alleviate the suffering of its people and restore peace to the region.
