The Mission Olympic Cell (MOC) of the Sports Ministry has given its approval to the proposals of shooters Ganemat Sekhon and Gurjoat Singh to undergo training in Italy under the guidance of foreign coaches. The shooters are part of the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) and have been selected based on their exceptional performance and potential.

Ganemat Sekhon, who recently clinched the Gold medal in the mixed team event at the ISSF World Cup in Cairo, Egypt, holds the top rank in the Women’s Skeet event in India. She will be training in Bari under the tutelage of Italian coach Piero Genga. The training program is scheduled for 11 days and aims to enhance Ganemat’s skills and prepare her for the upcoming ISSF World Championship and Asian Games.

Similarly, Gurjoat Singh, another promising shooter, will be heading to Capua to train at TAV Falco for a duration of 10 days. His training will be supervised by renowned coach Ennio Falco. The objective of Gurjoat’s training is to fine-tune his shooting techniques and improve his overall performance ahead of the crucial upcoming competitions.

The financial assistance provided by the MOC will cover various expenses incurred during the training period. This includes coaching fees, range fees, ammunition costs, travel and lodging expenses, local transportation charges, and other necessary expenditures. By offering comprehensive support, the MOC aims to alleviate the financial burden on the shooters, allowing them to solely focus on their training and preparation.

Both Ganemat Sekhon and Gurjoat Singh have their sights set on the upcoming ISSF World Championship and Asian Games. These competitions present significant opportunities for the shooters to showcase their skills and compete against some of the best athletes from around the world. The training in Italy, under the guidance of experienced foreign coaches, will provide them with invaluable exposure, technical expertise, and a conducive environment to hone their talents.

The approval of their training proposals highlights the Sports Ministry’s commitment to nurturing and supporting talented athletes through initiatives like the Target Olympic Podium Scheme. By providing financial assistance and access to world-class training, the ministry aims to facilitate the development of Indian athletes and enhance their chances of achieving success at prestigious international events.

In summary, Ganemat Sekhon and Gurjoat Singh’s training in Italy under foreign coaches marks a crucial step in their preparation for the upcoming ISSF World Championship and Asian Games. The financial support from the MOC will enable them to receive comprehensive training and cover various expenses. This endeavor reflects the government’s dedication to supporting and promoting Indian athletes on their path to achieving Olympic glory.
