Malayalam actor Harish Pengan, renowned for his notable performances in films such as ‘Minnal Murali,’ ‘Maheshinte Prathikaram,’ and ‘Shefeekkinte Santhosham,’ passed away on Tuesday at a private hospital in Kochi, Kerala. According to sources from the film industry, his condition deteriorated, and he breathed his last at 3.14 pm. Harish had been receiving treatment for liver-related ailments at the Ernakulam hospital.
Last month, the 48-year-old actor was admitted to the hospital due to severe abdominal pain, and subsequent medical tests revealed liver disease. His condition was deemed critical, necessitating an urgent liver transplant. However, due to financial constraints, his family was unable to gather the required funds, even though his twin sister was a potential donor match.
Friends, colleagues, and acquaintances from the film fraternity rallied together to raise funds for Harish’s medical treatment, but the process took longer than anticipated, leading to his unfortunate demise from his liver condition.
The late actor’s last rites will be conducted in Kochi on Wednesday, as per his family’s announcement. The Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA) Directors Union took to social media to pay tribute to Harish, expressing their grief over his unexpected demise during treatment. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan also conveyed his condolences on the sudden loss of Harish.
The passing of Harish Pengan has left a void in the Malayalam film industry, as he was known for his impactful performances and contributions to cinema.
