Maharashtra Deputy CM Fadnavis Expresses Excitement after Test Drive
Mumbai, Maharashtra – In a recent development, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, accompanied by Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis, took a test drive on the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL), India’s longest sea bridge. The MTHL, also known as the Sewri-Nhava Sheva Trans Harbour Link, is set to open to the public in November, offering a much-needed solution to the traffic congestion in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. Fadnavis enthusiastically shared updates on the progress, stating that the bridge is “almost ready.”
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has successfully completed the Mumbai-bound carriageway of the ambitious project, a six-lane access-controlled expressway grade road bridge. Stretching across an impressive 16.5 kilometers above the sea, the bridge connects Sewri in south Mumbai to Chirle near Nhava Sheva.
Once operational, the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link is expected to alleviate the commuting woes of residents in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region and boost economic development. Commuters will be able to travel from central Mumbai’s Sewri to Navi Mumbai’s Chirle in a mere 15 to 20 minutes, significantly reducing travel time. The project holds great promise for the region, as it not only mitigates traffic congestion but also promotes the growth of educational, industrial, and service sectors.
Deputy CM Fadnavis took to Twitter to express his excitement about driving on the MTHL and referred to it as an “engineering marvel.” He further expressed gratitude towards Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, with whom he embarked on this test drive, writing, “What more could I ask for?”
Highlighting the significance of the MTHL, Shinde announced that the connection of the ambitious project to the mainland was recently completed with great fanfare. He also mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has been actively supporting the completion of the project, will soon inaugurate the sea bridge. Shinde emphasized that the bridge’s integration with the Mumbai-Pune Expressway and the Mumbai-Goa National Highway will further enhance connectivity and foster the development of the region.
Throughout the construction of the MTHL, great care has been taken to preserve the environmental balance. Shinde highlighted that the project utilized the latest technology, ensuring the protection of the habitat of flamingo birds in the area. Additionally, the completion of the MTHL is expected to yield numerous benefits, including time and fuel savings, pollution prevention, and enhanced connectivity for both commuters and businesses.
The MTHL project stands as a testament to Maharashtra’s commitment to infrastructure development and sustainable growth. As the longest sea bridge in India, it signifies a remarkable achievement for the state and the nation as a whole. With the project nearing completion and the upcoming inauguration by Prime Minister Modi, anticipation and excitement are building among residents and stakeholders who eagerly await the opening of this transformative infrastructure marvel.
As November draws closer, the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link is set to reshape the transportation landscape of the region, fostering growth, and enhancing connectivity for generations to come.
