The Mumbai Police have registered an FIR against Asit Kumarr Modi, the producer of popular TV show “Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah,” along with two others, following a complaint of sexual harassment made by a woman actor. The FIR was filed at Powai police station on Monday evening under Sections 354A (sexual harassment) and 509 (insulting the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code.
Last month, the actor approached the police and the National Commission for Women, accusing the producer and others of sexual harassment. In response, the producer denied the allegations, stating that the actor was dismissed from the show due to misconduct. An inquiry was conducted following the complaint, during which the individuals named in the complaint were questioned.
According to the actor, she experienced multiple instances of sexual harassment by the producer over the past few years. “Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah,” which has been on air since 2008, is one of the longest-running sitcoms in the history of Indian television. The show features popular actors such as Dilip Joshi, Munmun Dutta, and Mandar Chandwadkar.
The registration of the FIR signifies a significant step in the investigation into the allegations of sexual harassment. It is expected that a thorough examination of the complaint will take place to determine the veracity of the claims made by the actor. The case has once again brought attention to the issue of workplace harassment in the entertainment industry, highlighting the need for a safe and inclusive environment for all individuals involved in television production.
