Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal faced interruptions during his speech at the inauguration event for the East Delhi campus of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU). Kejriwal addressed a group of people who interrupted his speech by stating that slogans alone cannot improve the education system, and if they could, it would have already improved in the last 70 years.
In response to the interruptions caused by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) supporters raising slogans against the city government, Kejriwal appealed to both parties to listen for five minutes and offered them the opportunity to express their discontent through sloganeering afterward. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) workers also raised slogans against the BJP in response to the disruption.
The inauguration ceremony was jointly attended by Kejriwal, Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, Education Minister Atishi, BJP MP Gautam Gambhir, and local legislator OP Sharma. The new East Delhi campus, located in Surajmal Vihar, spans 19 acres and has been constructed at a cost of ₹388 crore. It has the capacity to accommodate 2,400 students and features various facilities, including a central library, an incubation center, lecture theaters, classrooms, an auditorium, an indoor sports hall, and a residential complex for outstation students.
Notably, the campus boasts net-zero energy consumption due to the installation of solar panels on the academic block’s roof. Additionally, water recycling systems have been implemented for gardening purposes after proper treatment. The campus is equipped with an auditorium, an academic block, a sports block, a library, and a residential hostel block.
The East Delhi campus of GGSIPU will offer several engineering courses, including B.Tech in Automation and Robotics, B.Tech in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, and B.Tech in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.
The disruption during Arvind Kejriwal’s speech momentarily marred the inauguration event, highlighting the ongoing political tensions between the BJP and AAP.
