The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has recently issued a dense fog warning over several North-Indian states, adding to the challenges posed by the intensifying cold weather conditions in the region. Over the past few days, a relentless cold wave has gripped the Northern part of the country, with maximum temperatures consistently hovering below normal limits.

The Northern states, including but not limited to Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh, are currently experiencing the brunt of this unrelenting cold spell. Daytime temperatures have struggled to reach their usual levels, creating an environment where residents find themselves bundled up in layers to combat the chill in the air.

The night temperatures have further exacerbated the situation, plunging below the normal averages in some areas. The cold wave’s persistence is notable, and the IMD’s warning for dense fog raises concerns about reduced visibility, potentially impacting transportation and daily activities in affected regions.

Dense fog during winter is a common phenomenon in the North Indian plains, and it often leads to disruptions in air and rail travel. The fog, combined with already low temperatures, can create hazardous conditions on roads, prompting authorities to urge caution and advise travelers to exercise prudence during their commutes.

About Dense Fog Warning:

The reasons behind this prolonged cold wave are attributed to various meteorological factors. Clear skies and calm winds contribute to efficient radiational cooling during the night, allowing temperatures to plummet. Additionally, the absence of significant weather systems, such as western disturbances, is playing a role in the prevailing weather conditions.

Residents of the affected regions are advised to take necessary precautions to safeguard against the bitter cold. This includes using adequate insulation, wearing warm clothing, and minimizing outdoor activities during early morning and late evening hours when fog is likely to be dense.

While cold waves are a typical feature of North India’s winter, the persistence and severity of this particular episode highlight the importance of staying informed about weather updates and heeding official warnings. The IMD continues to monitor the situation closely and provides timely information to assist both residents and authorities in managing the challenges posed by the ongoing cold wave.

As the Northern states grapple with below-normal temperatures and the looming threat of dense fog, it becomes imperative for individuals and communities to adapt to these weather conditions and prioritize safety in their daily routines.
