Delhi University is set to launch BTech programs in three engineering disciplines, namely Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, and Electrical Engineering, starting from the upcoming academic session. The university’s Faculty of Technology will oversee these programs, which will admit a total of 360 students. The admissions will be based on the scores obtained in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main.

The Ministry of Education granted approval to the university in April for the establishment of these programs, along with the creation of 72 teaching and 48 non-teaching positions. The university had formed a committee in 2021 to assess the feasibility of introducing the new courses. The committee conducted multiple meetings over the course of a year and a half, focusing on various aspects to ensure a smooth initiation of the BTech programs.

According to the committee’s report, the university will initially arrange for adequate space, including classrooms and laboratories, for these programs until a dedicated building for the Faculty of Technology is constructed. The committee authorized the vice-chancellor to make decisions regarding the required physical infrastructure. Each of the three courses is expected to accommodate 120 students, resulting in a total intake of 360 students in the first year.

The BTech programs will be designed with a significant emphasis on the major subject area of study, with a minimum weightage of 50% and a maximum weightage of 65%. The remaining weightage will be given to minor subject areas. The programs will also align with the National Education Policy and offer multiple exit options. After completing one year of study and earning the necessary credits, students will receive a certificate. Similarly, those who complete two years of study will be awarded a diploma, while students who complete three years will receive an advanced diploma. Upon successful completion of the four-year program, students will be awarded a BTech degree.

To ensure logistical support and proximity to other faculties and departments, the departments of Computer Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, and Electrical Engineering will be situated on the North Campus of the university.

In summary, Delhi University’s introduction of BTech programs in Computer Science, Electronics and Communication Engineering, and Electrical Engineering is a significant development for students aspiring to pursue engineering studies. The university has received the necessary approvals and is making preparations to provide the required infrastructure for the programs. This initiative aligns with the National Education Policy’s vision and will offer students various options to shape their educational journey.
