The G20 summit, scheduled to be held on September 9 and September 10. It will take place at the state-of-the-art Bharat Mandapam convention centre in Delhi’s Pragati Maidan, under the presidency of India. This event is expected to host a multitude of dignitaries, including prominent figures like US President Joe Biden, Chinese Premier Xi Jinping, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and French President Emmanuel Macron.

Security Measures in Place

To ensure the safety and smooth movement of the summit’s participants, the Delhi Police are leaving no stone unturned. The force is engaged in extensive preparations, including conducting special drills and training sessions. A mock drill recently took place on major roads connecting Pragati Maidan to various hotels, aiming to review and optimize restriction and diversion arrangements. Barricades were set up at key junctions and diversion points, while multiple teams of traffic police personnel were deployed to manage the anticipated traffic influx.

Moreover, the police are not only focusing on logistical arrangements but also on enhancing their capabilities. As part of this effort, 19 women commandos from the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit of the Delhi Police underwent a four-week specialized training program conducted by the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP). This training focused on handling chemical and biological weapons, as well as bolstering their soft skills to effectively manage security situations.

In line with the security measures, the Delhi Police have procured special weaponry, ammunition, bulletproof jackets, and X-ray machines. These measures highlight the comprehensive approach being taken to ensure the safety and security of all attendees, especially considering the sensitive nature of the event.
