A gruesome murder in Mumbai’s Mira Road area, where a 32-year-old woman named Saraswati Vaidya was killed and her body parts boiled and ground in a mixer by her live-in partner, Manoj Sahani (56), has sparked a war of words between Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Supriya Sule and Chitra Wagh, the president of the Maharashtra BJP Mahila Morcha.
The shocking incident drew attention to the lack of fear criminals have in the state, prompting Supriya Sule to question Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and his Home department. Sule urged the state Home Minister to pay serious attention to the case and emphasized the need for the investigating agencies to expedite the prosecution of the accused and seek the death penalty.
In response, BJP women’s wing president Chitra Wagh criticized Supriya Sule, accusing her of changing her stance on issues like a chameleon. Wagh defended Devendra Fadnavis’s capability to take action in the Mira Road case and pointed out that Sule remained silent when a minor girl was kidnapped by a Muslim boy in Manchar, Pune district, during the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government’s rule. Wagh argued that if the MVA government had intervened, the tragic murder of Shraddha Walkar, who was also dismembered, could have been prevented.
The details of the murder are disturbing, as the accused, Manoj Sahani, purchased a tree-cutter and used it to dismember Saraswati Vaidya’s body after killing her. He then proceeded to boil the body parts in a pressure cooker and put them into plastic bags for disposal. The police were alerted by neighbors who detected a foul smell emanating from the premises. Approximately 12-13 body pieces were recovered from the site. Sahani and Vaidya had been living together for the past three years, but little information was known about the reclusive couple among their neighbors.
The Mira Road murder case has ignited a heated exchange between political leaders, raising concerns about crime and the state of law and order in Maharashtra. The clash between the BJP and NCP leaders underscores the broader political implications surrounding the tragic incident.
