Bengaluru Metro's Purple Line Services to be Temporarily Interrupted

Introduction 

In a move to enhance the efficiency and safety of its newly developed metro lines, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has announced a temporary interruption of services on the purple line of the Bengaluru metro. The interruptions are set to take place from August 17 to 29, 2023. The primary purpose of this interruption is to facilitate comprehensive testing of signalling systems on the Baiyappanahalli – Krishnarajapuram and Kengeri – Challaghatta stretches, which are slated for the inauguration.

According to the announcement, commuters on the affected stretches should be prepared for alterations in their daily travel routines.

Here is a breakdown of the service interruptions and the corresponding alternative arrangements:

August 17:

– No train services will be operational throughout the day between Kengeri and Mysuru Road Metro Stations.

– Train services will only be available between Mysuru Road and Baiyappanahalli metro stations from 5:00 am to 11:00 pm.

August 23 and 24

– Train services will be suspended up to 7:00 am between Kengeri and Mysuru Road metro stations.

– During this period, train services will run between Mysuru Road and Swami Vivekananda Road metro stations.

– After 7:00 am, normal services will be resumed from Kengeri to Baiyappanahalli.

August 20 to 29:

– Train services will be halted up to 7:00 am between Baiyappanahalli Terminal – Swami Vivekananda Road Metro Station and between Krishnarajapura – Whitefield (Kadugodi) sections.

– Train services will be available only from Swami Vivekananda Road Metro Station during this period.

– On August 23 and 24, metro trains will terminate at Mysuru Road between 5:00 am to 7:00 am. On the other days, trains will run up to Kengeri.

– After 7:00 am, regular services will be resumed from Baiyappanahalli to Kengeri.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah provided additional insights during an Independence Day event, mentioning that the Baiyappanahalli – KR Puram and Kengeri – Challaghatta stretches are anticipated to be inaugurated in September. Speaking about the progress of the Bengaluru metro network, Siddaramaiah stated, “Bengaluru metro network stands second in the whole country. By September this year, Baiyappanahalli – Krishnarajapuram and Kengeri – Challaghatta lines will become operational. By December this year, Nagasandra – Madavara expansion will also be completed.”

Commuters and residents are advised to plan their travel accordingly during the specified interruption period. BMRCL assures that these temporary changes are crucial to ensure the seamless and safe operation of the new metro lines. The corporation also remains committed to delivering an improved and efficient public transportation system to the people of Bengaluru.
