In a shocking incident that took place in November 2022, a 35-year-old cab driver was apprehended by the police for extorting a substantial amount of money and gold from a female passenger.
The accused driver, identified as Kiran, allegedly overheard a conversation between the woman and her friend during a cab ride. Which he then exploited to hatch a plan for extortion.

According to authorities, Kiran eavesdropped on a conversation about the woman’s personal problems with her friend while giving her a ride.
After this initial encounter, the cab driver ingeniously devised a scheme to use the sensitive information he had overheard to blackmail the woman for financial gain.
Over the course of several rides, Kiran allegedly posed as the woman’s friend, engaging her in conversations about her personal troubles. Falling victim to the manipulation, the woman gradually began confiding in the cab driver, unaware of his ulterior motives.
Exploiting the information he had gathered, the accused started to blackmail the woman.

Growing suspicious of the ongoing demands, the woman conducted her own investigation and discovered the shocking truth. The woman cross referenced Kiran’s number with that of her friend and realised it was deception.
When the woman confronted the cab driver he threatened her. Kiran reportedly warned her that he would publicly smear her with false allegations and circulate them through the media.

Responding promptly to the woman’s complaint, Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Bheema Shankar Ghuled stated, “We received an unusual complaint from the woman, and upon investigation, we arrested the cab driver. The cab Driver was presented in court and subsequently remanded to judicial custody. During the arrest, the police recovered 960 grams of gold and Rs 60 lakh in cash from his possession.”
