The Manipur state has long been grappling with ethnic violence, and the Assam Rifles have played a crucial role in ensuring peace in the region since May 3. However, some sections have reportedly attempted to question the role, intent, and integrity of the Assam Rifles and other central security forces. The Spear Corps highlighted that these efforts have been desperate, repeated, and ultimately unsuccessful.

Army’s official statement

The Army’s statement acknowledged that due to the complex nature of the situation on the ground in Manipur, occasional differences might arise at the tactical level among various security forces. It emphasized that such misunderstandings are swiftly addressed through a joint mechanism to ensure the synchronized efforts of these forces in restoring peace and normalcy to Manipur.

In the past 24 hours, two incidents have come to light . These Incidents are allegedly aim at damaging the reputation of the Assam Rifles. The first case involves accusations of the Assam Rifles strictly following the guidelines laid out by the Unified Headquarters for maintaining a buffer zone between conflicting communities. This enforcement needed to be carried out with the intention of preventing violence between these groups.

The second case pertains to claims that the Assam Rifles had been on a move out of a certain area. However, the Army clarified that the narrative surrounding this movement is unrelated to the Assam Rifles, as the area in question has been under the deployment of an infantry battalion since the crisis erupted in May.

The Indian Army and Assam Rifles have extended assurance to the people of Manipur that they remain committed to preventing any actions that could escalate violence in the already volatile environment. The Spear Corps’ statement underscores their determination to continue their efforts to establish stability and restore peace in the state.

On a separate note, it is worth mentioning that Manipur Police recently filed a First Information Report (FIR) accusing the Assam Rifles of blocking their vehicle following a confrontation between the two groups. The exact details of the altercation and the subsequent developments are yet to be fully clarified.

Conclusion

As the situation unfolds, it is evident that maintaining unity among various security forces is essential to effectively address the challenges faced in Manipur. The central security forces, particularly the Assam Rifles, play a vital role in ensuring the region’s stability and harmony. Their efforts needs be support and respect by all stakeholders involved.
