New Delhi, India – In preparation for the highly anticipated G20 leaders’ summit scheduled for September, the Indian government has made a remarkable move by reserving all available rooms in five-star hotels across Delhi-NCR and significant parts of the national capital region. The decision was taken to accommodate the influx of dignitaries and delegates expected to attend the prestigious international event.
The G20 summit is set to be a historic occasion, with heads of government from the 20 member-nations, observers, special invitees, and prominent figures from global bodies like the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund converging in India’s capital city. According to official estimates, the official delegations alone are expected to number between 400 to 500 individuals.
Additionally, the summit will be attended by an extensive security and media entourage, which will likely comprise several thousand personnel, further adding to the logistical challenge of hosting such a significant gathering.
The two-day summit is scheduled to commence on September 9th at the newly constructed Integrated Exhibition-cum Convention Centre (IECC) at Pragati Maidan. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to personally welcome the esteemed leaders to the event, which marks the culmination of more than 200 meetings hosted by India across various states and Union territories during its G20 presidency.
The choice of the IECC as the summit venue holds special significance, as it provides an opportunity for India to showcase its numerous achievements and strengths on the global stage. Some of the key areas to be highlighted include India’s advancements in digital public infrastructure, its rich cultural heritage, and its unwavering commitment to democratic values.
During the summit, the leaders will engage in extensive discussions on critical global issues and policy matters, aiming to foster cooperation and chart a path towards a more inclusive and sustainable world.
In addition to the formal proceedings, the government has planned a cultural evening and dinner for the delegates. Initially considering locations like Purana Quila, the authorities have now decided to host the event at the IECC itself, which is due to be inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi.
The spouses of the dignitaries will also have a well-curated program during their visit to India. The government has arranged visits to prominent locations, including the ICAR complex on Pusa road and the National Gallery for Modern Art. The latter will feature exhibits that reflect India’s ‘One-District One-Product’ initiative, along with a display of the country’s vibrant handicrafts at both venues and Pragati Maidan.
To enhance convenience for the delegates and showcase India’s progress in digital transactions, the government has installed UPI QR codes at some G20 meetings. This will enable delegates to make electronic payments for products they wish to purchase during their stay.
As the G20 summit approaches, anticipation continues to build, and the nation eagerly awaits the opportunity to host leaders from around the world. The event not only presents India with a chance to demonstrate its global stature but also offers a platform for fostering meaningful dialogues on pressing international matters.
With Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the helm, India is set to leave an indelible mark on this momentous occasion and reinforce its commitment to working hand-in-hand with the international community for a more prosperous and harmonious future.
